Coconino County Health Department

LOCATION: Flagstaff, AZ, U.S.A.

ORGANIZATION TYPE: Government

FOCUS AREA: Children / Families, Education, Food security / Nutrition, Health Care Delivery, Housing / Neighborhoods, Income & Wealth, Public Health, Public Policy, Race / Ethnicity

HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVES: We offered a free performance of Sarah Jones's "A Right to Care" to the community. This performance generated a tremendous amount of excitement for the Town Hall "Health in the Balance" that was conducted two weeks later. Each attendee made a commitment to take some action either personally or within their business to address inequity. A committee of the United Way of Northern Arizona (Economic Stability) will be taking the ideas that were generated by the Town Hall to work on or to generate interest from another group to move forward. We will be working with the Social Justice Coalition at Northern Arizona University to schedule screenings of Unnatural Causes for the community. The Health Department will be doing some work internally to identify barriers we create for individuals and work we can undertake to develop the Department's focus on Health Inequity.
